Is Aloe Vera Good For Oily Skin?

Can Aloe Vera Help Oily Skin?

If you have oily skin, you have most likely found it a challenge to find skin care products that work well with your skin. Most people with oily skin either have an oily T-Zone, or their skin is oily all over their face. Choosing the proper skincare for this type of skin is challenging, but essential. You need a skincare product with the right active ingredients but one that also doesn't excessively dry your skin out or cause oil rebound.

What is Aloe Vera?

Despite looking like it is a member of the cactus family, Aloe Vera actually belongs to the lily family. It's famous for its' use in traditional medicinal applications, as well as cosmetic properties. The gel typically used is found in the clear inner part of the leaf underneath the outer green rind and the gel gives the aloe vera its one-of-a-kind benefits. The inner part of the leaf actually comes out much the same way a fish filet would come out when the skin is removed.  However, that is where the similarities end. The inner filet is then ground up to create a viscous liquid/gel.

Aloe Vera is made up of between 98 and 99% water, so beyond Aloe's renown bioactive properties, it is also extremely hydrating and moisturizing. In addition to water, the plant is a rich source of vitamins A, B, C, and E. Seven essential amino acids also contribute to the plant's uniquely bioactive properties, all of which go towards given you healthy, glowing skin. What does this mean for people that have oily skin? Before we answer that, we need to learn more about what exactly causes oily skin.

What is Oily Skin?

A lipid barrier protects the outer layer of your skin. This barrier is made up of lipids derived from sebum. The sebum is secreted from your sebaceous glands, and their purpose is to hold dead skin cells together. This barrier protects the live skin cells and also prevents irritants from getting in and water and helpful nutrients from getting out.

Skin oil is an important part of this process and just how much oil is being produced and your environmental conditions determine how that presents itself in your skin. When you have shiny oily skin, it's because your sebaceous glands produce too much oil (sebum). It then sits on the surface of your skin, captures dead skin cells, dirt, and clogs your pores

This can cause bacteria to get stuck in the outer layer and clog your poors, which can lead to breakouts and acne. This is a really common issue for oily skin, but it can be treated by getting rid of the excess oil and regulating your skin's oil production using a regular skin care routing.

Aloe Clearing Cleanser is a refreshing, purifying cleanser features Aloe Vera enriched with mint and witch hazel to exfoliates and remove excess oil without overly drying your skin. It removes impurities without harsh chemicals to help create a protective barrier that will leave your skin smooth, healthy, and hydrated.

How does Aloe Vera Control Oily Skin?

Aloe Vera has twelve vitamins, eighteen amino acids, twenty minerals, and over two hundred phytonutrients, plus active plant compounds. In addition, it includes a natural astringent to help absorb impurities and excess oil from your skin and pores.

There are two hormones, Auxins and Gibberellins, in aloe vera that have soothing properties. These two hormones can help with the appearance of marks and scars that show from acne and breakouts. Plus, the high water content can help to hydrate your oily skin. So even though your skin is oily, it can still become dehydrated.
